These forward-thinking community leaders – representing the business, entertainment, fund-raising, non-profit and educational facets of Houston – have created a program that shows our city to its best advantage.

Board of Directors

Sesh Bala
Community Leader

"Houston is a very diverse, vibrant and cosmopolitan city! There is a lot to see and a lot to do, more than you may realize. More importantly, Houston is a people place! The people of the Greater Houston area are warm, welcoming and friendly. It has been my home since 1971. Take a “greet” about one of your favorite subjects and discover for yourself. Welcome to Houston!"

Greg Barnes

"Locals recognize the greater Houston area as a wonderful place to work and live, but having an organization like Houston Greeters alows us to show visitors and newcomers what we mean.  It's a personal way to tell someone about that part of Houston that they most enjoy."

"Think of Houston and a number of activities come to mind. From the mild climate, perfect for outdoor recreation, to shopping, the Arts and world-class cuisine, Houston's a destination that offers it all. We're
spread out with room to grow. There's no problem finding exactly what you're looking for - but it helps to have a guide. I think Houston Greeters offers the perfect service. And at no charge, what's not to like?"

Amy Catherine Dinn
Gardere Wynne Sewell, LLP

"Houston Greeter offers a fabulous opportunity for real people to connect in very real ways.  It's a great way to find your way into a new city."

Jorge Franz
Director of Tourism
President, Houston Image Group
GHCVB

"Houston is a city for tourists.  There is always something interesting to do and now Houston Greeters provides one way for visitors to be connected with a local volunteer to enjoy a shared experience.  It’s a way of mixing cultures and everyone comes away enlightened by the encounter."

Betsy Griffin, Chair
Community Leader

Houston is spread over so many miles it can be daunting to a newcomer. But connecting with a Houston Greeter will allow the visitor or new resident (or even a long time resident) to experience some part of town that is of particular interest to them – food, entertainment, sports. There’s a Houston Greeter for almost every interest.”

Michael Jhin, Inaugural Chair of the Board
CEO Emeritus

St. Luke's Episcopal Health System

"Greeters' goal is that people experience Houston hospitality as if they were our guests, not simply tourits"

Shervin Kalinia
St. Luke's Episcopal Health System
Administrative Director

“Working in the medical center we see people everyday that have come to Houston for short and long term stays. Those who connect with a Houston Greeter can get away for even short breaks and see something in the city that surprises and delights them. Many patients and their family members or care takers have used this service.”

Tracye McDaniel
Executive Vice President & COO
Greater Houston Partnership

Houston has something for everyone. But being such a large city it can be hard to find your own interests quickly. But, like Chicago and New York, we have found that visitors find the Greeter service quite friendly and accessible. It makes it easier for visitors to find their own special interests in Houston.”

Mariloli Odum
Community Leader

Gordon Quan

"One thing I love about Houston is its multicultural nature.  We're a city full of people from everywhere, and it's great if we can show visitors some part of town that they might not get to see without the help of a Houston Greeter"

Cody Sutton
Sr. Vice President, International Business
Greater Houston Partnership

"Greeters can be so helpful when small groups or prospective businesses come to town. Local volunteers can present that local flavor which lets people see just how diverse and friendly the city is."
