Meet A Few Greeters

Ask a Greeter

You may have questions about our program or Houston. We have included some of the inquiries we hear most often. If you have a question that isn’t listed here, please use the form at the bottom of this page.

How long will I spend with a Greeter?

Most activities range from two to four hours, though there is no set time. Visitors and Greeters can honor their own timetables.

Where will we meet?

If both visitor and Greeter are using public transportation, you might meet at a pre-arranged location and ride together. If you choose to take a taxi or use a rental car, you will meet the Greeter at the appointed location.

Do I need a car?

No. Houston’s Metro system very generously donates bus and rail passes for our Houston Greeters participants. If you wish, you may drive your own car or take a taxi.

How much does the Greeter service cost?

Absolutely nothing! Our volunteers donate their time because they love to show off our city, share their passion and meet new people. A sincere “thank you” is more than ample pay!

Some visitors are so happy with the program that they chose to make a donation to the organization.  As a non-profit organization, we welcome the gesture. Donations can be mailed to:

How much will my activity cost?

If there is a cost associated with your visit (greens fees, museum admission etc.) you will only pay your fees. You do not pay the expenses of the Greeter.

What should I wear?

That depends on your activity. Comfort is the first consideration. Some activities, a Houston Grand Opera concert for instance, will be dressy, but casual dress is fine for most.

What if I can’t make it?

You’ll receive a confirmation and phone number for Houston Greeters when your visit is confirmed. Please call or email as soon as possible if you have a conflict; our office will contact your Greeter.

What if I get tired?

Just let your Greeter know. Perhaps you’d like to sit with a cup of coffee and have a conversation about the activity, or you might want to end the outing early. It’s up to you.

What about the Houston weather?

There’s a saying in Houston: “If you don’t like our weather, wait a few hours – it will change.” Houston typically has mild winters and warm summers. The average temperature is 69.9 degrees; summer highs average 84 degrees and winter lows average 50 degrees. Visit to weather.com to get an idea of the weather forecast during your stay.
